About ID Discipleship

Discipleship is our passion and the way True Union Ministries got started, with two guys meeting in a coffee shop to pray and pursue Jesus together. We developed the ID Discipleship model specifically to equip and encourage those who struggle with questions of identity, gender, and sexual orientation. The name “ID” is taken from the Latin Imago Dei, “the image of God”. Genesis 1:27 tells us that we are made in the image of God:

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Genesis 1:27

In Colossians 1:15, we learn another profound truth about the image of God: Jesus is the original, the perfect Imago Dei!

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.

Colossians 1:15

From these passages we learn three things:

  1. God created two genders, male and female.
  2. He created both in His image.
  3. We see the image of God perfectly displayed in the person of Jesus.

The world offers many false sources of identity–sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, family, career. But the Word of God tells us there is only one true source of identity for any man or woman: Jesus Christ. “In Him, we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28). Only in Jesus can we discover who we were created to be. This is true for all men and women, regardless of their sexual orientation or any other experience.

Our vision for ID Discipleship is that the local church would become a place where men and women learn to find their identity in Jesus and experience the abundant life God intended for them through the love and support of their spiritual family, the body of Christ.
